Happy Halloween! There are lots of scary things out there for
Halloween, such as ghosts, witches, goblins, vampires, etc. But those aren’t real and they’re gone after
today. However, there are some real-life
events that are extremely frightening and don’t have a specific end date. I can’t imagine anything scarier than hearing
the words “You have Cancer”!
For women diagnosed with
breast, ovarian and other gynecologic cancers, there is an organization to help
make this time a little less scary and overwhelming. Support Connection provides free services to
women and their families affected by those cancers. All their counselors are
cancer survivors themselves which puts them in the best position to guide women
through a very difficult time. It’s
comforting to know there are others out there who are going through or have
gone through the same thing.
We
lost my sister Mary to breast cancer 20 years ago and my sister Maureen is
undergoing breast cancer treatment for the second time so I know the toll a
cancer diagnosis takes on the patient and their loved ones. I’ve been a
volunteer for Support Connection for 10 years now and joined their board of
directors in 2022. I see the positive impact they have on so many people.
